Minister embarrasses Goa govt

Deccan Herald
Saturday, April 2, 2011

Panaji (DHNS) - The detention of Goa's Education Minister Babush
Monserrate by the customs in Mumbai for allegedly trying to smuggle a
hefty amount of cash out of the country has put the Congress in an
embarrassing situation.

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said unless he was able to verify the
facts, he could offer no comment on his minister's behaviour. "I have
not been able to contact Monserrate at all. I know as much as anyone
else who has seen the headline being flashed on TV," he told Deccan
Herald.

The BJP, however, lost no time in asking that Monserrate be dropped
from the ministry and that he be booked for corruption. Monserrate
was detained by the Air Intelligence unit of the customs a few
minutes before he boarded a plane to Dubai for carrying an
undisclosed amount of foreign and Indian currency. The customs seized
different foreign currencies worth Rs 22.84 lakh and Rs 1.16 lakh in
Indian currency.

Ministry sources here said Monserrate was travelling to Dubai via
Mumbai with his son and two aides. Monserrate and son were cleared by
security when one of his aides, carrying a bag of cash, was stopped
by the customs.

Monserrate stepped back to say he is a minister and the bag belonged
to him, but the customs detained him. His son went on to take the
flight to Dubai early on Saturday.

Monserrate, who started out as a moneylender, has big time real
estate interests in Goa. He was minister for town and country
planning under the BJP government in Goa and rejoined the Congress a
year ago when he was made minister for education.

"Minister embarrasses Goa govt" - wrong. It should be "Minister
embarrasses Indians and mankind".What kind of country we are living
in. The martyrs of Julianwala Bhag and Udham Singh,Bhaghat Singh
,Sukdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Netaji Bose, Mahatma Gandhi must be turning
in their graves and wondering why did they gave up their precious
life so that the disgraceful Monserrate, Gowdas, Yeddi, Jayalalitha,
Kalajar, Raja, Kalamadi, Dawood Ibrahim and countless other crooks
can make millions at their cost. What good is freedom for the country
when crooks get away with anything. Why the cash carrying minister was
freed and I hope his son was allowed to travel abroad. May be the son
took all the cash right in front of all the policeman. While the
thief got away scot free, his son made it with all the cash. What a

I am a proud Hindu and I do agree with your point. If Fateh Ali Khan
was arrested why was this guy let off? To quote you "Because he is
Christian and Italian Madam Maino asked that he be released?". before
anybody pounces on me I do not care if an RSS guy is arrested for the
same crime. Congress is fooling the nation, time for everyone to kick
this party out and we shall never let Rahul become PM, cause he has
no qualification, no IQ, no maturity, no intelligence to lead our
country, being from a Gandhi family should not be reason enough.
